CCCP Men's CP-7018-04 Typhoon Analog Display Automatic Self Wind Watch

In the 1980's the Soviet Union deployed the largest class of submarines ever built called the Typhoon. Robust, bold timepieces harken to these incredible machines and the complex machineries that made them work. With a custom molded silicone strap and solid stainless steel case, these timepiece pays tribute to the historic submarines of the Soviet Union. Typhoon submarines were among the quietest Russian submarines, similar to the movement powering these timepieces, a Miyota Japanese self-winding automatic visible through the exhibition see-through case back.

Being the largest and among the most quiet, the Typhoon is one of most powerful ballistic missile submarines ever built. These submarines were developed under Project 941 as the Russian Akula class (Акула), meaning shark. These sea vessels were so large that it not only displaced 48,000 tons of water when submerging, but also could accommodate decent living facilities for the crew when submerged for months. In Tom Clancy's novel, "The Hunt for Red October", the stealth equipped Red October was based off the same type of Typhoon-class submarine. Only six of these grand, sea vessels were built in the 1980's. Unfortunately the Russian Navy canceled their Typhoon modernization program in March 2012 due to economic reasons. The only two Typhoon-class submarines left, TK-17 and TK-20 are in reserve and will be dismantled in 2018.

From the design mind of Alexander Shorokhoff, inspired by the spirit and times of a country that burgeoned ahead in the fields of science, politcs, the arts - the CCCP watch collection draws its design inspiration from the life and times of a significant part of the modern political era of the Soviet Union. It was the Soviet Union that launched the first man made object into space. It was Yuri Gagarin, the cosmonaut who took with him the hopes and dreams of mankind as he became the first human being in space - breaking free from the Earth below. CCCP timepiece celebrates this and also the order of timekeeping and watch-making from the storied houses of Soviet watchmakers. Inspired by the above - we present a collection of aesthetic uniqueness, quality in workmanship borne by a legacy of the solid industrial machine of the Soviet Union that turned its prowess in engineering and design into the world of timekeeping.
